How to start an OnlyFans, in the order that actually works.

Most guides on how to start an OnlyFans stop at the sign up screen. The account takes an evening; the page takes a plan. This is the whole sequence, from deciding what the page sells to the first tracked subscriber, written from the platform's own help pages and from the method an agency runs for creators who arrive with nothing but a decision.

Short answer

Decide what the page sells, verify the account, set one price and a menu, publish ten posts, then promote with tracking links. In that order.

The account is the easy part: an email, a government ID, a selfie and payout details. The page is the work: a price chosen on purpose, a tip menu, a welcome message, a full feed on day one, and promotion accounts that were posting before the page opened.

  • Age18 or older, verified with ID
  • VerificationGovernment ID plus a selfie
  • Platform cut20 percent of every payment
  • Subscription priceFree, or within the platform's range
  • First real workPromotion, before day one

People search for how to start an OnlyFans and find two kinds of answer: a screenshot tour of the sign up form, or a promise about money. Neither survives the first month. What follows is the order in which a page is actually built, with the platform's rules where they apply, and the reasons behind each step, because a creator who understands why a step exists does not skip it when nobody is watching.

Before the account: decide what the page sells.

The account can be created in ten minutes. Do not create it yet. Three decisions come first, and each one changes what you type into the account settings later.

The niche and the persona

A page sells a person more than it sells content. Decide who that person is on the page: how explicit, how much of your face and life, what tone, what the fan is buying when they subscribe. Write it down in three lines. The bio, the captions and every DM will be written from those lines, and a page that changes its answer every week never builds a fan who stays.

Free page or paid page

A paid page charges a monthly subscription and can still sell extras. A free page charges nothing to follow and earns entirely from paid messages, tips and customs. Free pages make promotion easier, because there is no price to argue with on a subreddit, and make the inbox harder, because every dollar has to be sold in a conversation. Paid pages do the opposite. The right choice depends on where the promotion will come from and on whether the inbox will be worked; the section on price below has the numbers to decide with.

Face or no face

Both work. A faceless page is easier to keep private and harder to promote on the platforms that run on personality. If the answer is no face, the promotion plan leans on Reddit and X, where adult content is allowed and a body of work can carry a persona. The guide on making money without showing your face covers the trade in detail.

Creating the account.

  1. 1

    A dedicated email

Open a new address for the page. It keeps receipts and platform notices out of your main inbox, and it is what you will use for every promotion account too, so the accounts are yours and nobody else's.

  2. 2

Sign up as a fan first

OnlyFans creates every account as a fan account. You then apply to become a creator from the settings. The username you choose is the one in your URL, so choose it from the persona, not from your name.

  3. 3

Two factor authentication, on the first day

Turn it on before there is anything to lose. Agencies that ask for the login would not be able to hold the page if this is on and the code comes to a device you hold, which is one reason to do it now.

  4. 4

    Profile, empty for now

The header, avatar and bio are written after the price and the menu exist, because they sell the offer, and there is no offer yet.

Verification, tax and payouts.

Becoming a creator means proving you are an adult and a real person. OnlyFans asks for a government issued photo ID and a selfie, sometimes a short video, and checks that the name and the face match. The help center describes the process and the documents it accepts; the platform publishes no review time, and the common reasons for a rejection are a blurry photo or a mismatch between documents, as the verification guide explains.

Before the page can earn, the platform also needs tax information and a payout method. What it asks for depends on your country: a tax form, bank details or one of the supported payout options listed in the help center for your region. Payouts carry the platform's 20 percent cut, and the balance is paid out on the schedule and minimum the help center states for your payout method.

Anyone else in the content

Every person who appears in a photo or video has to be a verified adult on the platform too, with a release form on file. This applies to a partner, a friend at the edge of a frame, or a collaborator. There is no version of "they do not mind" that satisfies the rule. See the release form and verification for what is required.

The price, free or paid.

OnlyFans lets a creator set a monthly subscription price within a range the platform publishes, or make the page free to follow. Bundles for several months and time limited promotions can be added later. The price is not a guess and not a copy of another page; it is chosen from what the page sells and how fans will find it.

The subscription is the floor. The arithmetic of earnings shows why: tips, paid messages and customs are where most pages earn, and they are set by the menu, not by the subscription price. Pick the price that makes the promotion easiest and the menu that makes the inbox worth working. The guide on choosing a subscription price goes through the range and the bundles.

A tip menu is a price list for extras: named items with a price, shown in a pinned post and sent in the DMs. Without one, a fan who wants to spend has nothing to buy and a creator who wants to sell has nothing to point at. Write it before the first subscriber: five to ten items, from a small first purchase to a custom, with prices that make the cheapest item feel easy. The guide on building a tip menu has the structure and examples.

The welcome message is the first DM a new subscriber receives, and it is where the first sale usually happens. One message, in the persona's voice, that says thank you, tells the fan what the page does, and offers one thing from the menu. The platform lets you set it to send automatically. Write it now, because a page with no welcome message treats its first subscriber like a stranger, and that subscriber does not renew.

The first ten posts.

A subscriber who lands on an empty page leaves. Before promotion sends anyone, the feed needs to look like a page that has been running for weeks: ten posts at least, a pinned post with the menu, a header and avatar that match the persona, and two or three paid messages ready to send. Shoot in batches, caption in batches, schedule in batches; the platform's own scheduler is enough for this. Read what to post on OnlyFans for a cadence that survives a bad week and content ideas organized by what they sell.

Two rules from the platform apply from the first post. Captions and messages are filtered for restricted words, and a post that trips the filter is held; the list changes and the rules page tracks it. And anything sexually explicit involving anyone not verified with a release form is a violation that closes accounts, not a warning.

Promotion, with tracking links.

Nobody finds an OnlyFans page from inside OnlyFans. Every subscriber arrives from somewhere else, which is why the promotion accounts should be opened and posting before the page is, so the day the page opens there is already somewhere to send people. The channels, in the order most pages start them: Reddit, where adult content is allowed and subreddits are already sorted by interest; X, where labeled adult content is allowed and daily replies earn reach; then short video on TikTok and Instagram, which do not allow adult content or adult links, through a safe for work account and a landing page in your bio.

Before the first post goes out, create one tracking link per channel in your OnlyFans settings. A tracking link records clicks and the subscriptions they produced, which is the only way to know after a month whether the hours on Reddit made money or noise. The full method, channel by channel and rule by rule, is in how to promote OnlyFans; the same method run on a schedule with a weekly report is the agency's promotion service.

No ads

Meta, Google and TikTok refuse advertising for adult content, and an ad that links to an OnlyFans page gets the ad account removed. Promotion in this market is organic posting plus shoutouts bought post by post from creators whose audience matches yours.

Starting without followers.

Most creators start with none, and the searches for how to start an OnlyFans without followers outnumber the ones from creators with an audience. The plan does not change; the timing does. With no audience, the promotion accounts need four to six weeks of posting before the page opens, so that the opening announcement lands on people rather than on an empty feed. Reddit is where a following is built fastest from zero, because a good post in the right subreddit reaches thousands who have never heard of you, and a profile link is enough to carry them home.

What does not work from zero: buying followers, which produces accounts that never subscribe and get the promotion account restricted; posting the same image to twenty subreddits in an hour, which gets filtered; and opening the page first and promoting later, which produces a month of silence and a creator who quits.

What the terms ask for to open a creator account.

The OnlyFans Terms of Service list what a creator account needs, on top of the fan account every user opens first. It is worth reading the list before you start, because each item is a step that can hold the page back for days if it is done in a hurry. The fan account itself requires that you are at least 18, able to enter a contract, and willing to pay for what you buy.

  • A valid ID and two photos of you. These are the identity check. A sharp, well lit photo of the document and a clear photo of your face avoid the usual reasons for a rejection: blur and a mismatch.
  • A bank account or payment method. Added in the account, in your own name.
  • A payout option. The method the platform uses to transfer your earnings to you, chosen from the ones offered where you live.
  • A UK VAT number, only if you are registered for VAT in the UK.
  • More verification when asked. The terms let the platform request further age or identity checks at any time.
  • A monthly subscription price, if any. A free page is a choice the terms allow; the section on price above helps you choose.
  • Content for subscribers to see. A page with nothing on it is not finished, which is why the first ten posts come before promotion.

The profile that turns a visit into a subscriber.

Every fan who arrives from social media sees the profile before anything else, and decides quickly. Four parts do the work. The username, which is also your URL and should come from the persona; the username guide has the patterns. The avatar and the header, which show the niche and the quality of the content before a word is read; the header guide covers sizes and what the banner should say. And the bio, which tells a stranger what the page offers, how often it posts and what is exclusive to subscribers; the bio guide has examples to adapt.

Exclusive is the word that carries a page. A fan pays for what they cannot see on your free social media accounts, so the bio and the pinned post should make that line clear: the teasers are public, the photos and videos behind the paywall are not, and the tip menu lists what can be bought on top. Quality matters more than quantity here. Ten well lit posts in a consistent style build more trust than forty rushed ones, and a phone that shoots well is enough to start; the camera guide explains when an upgrade pays.

After launch: keep fans, build income.

The first month decides whether the page has loyal fans or a list of people who subscribed once, and it is where the content strategy meets real subscribers. Subscriptions renew automatically unless the fan switches renewal off, so every fan who stays is income you do not have to find again, and every fan who leaves has to be replaced by promotion. Keeping fans is cheaper work than finding them, and it is mostly done in the inbox and the feed.

Three habits do most of it. Post on a schedule fans can feel, so the page never looks abandoned. Answer messages in the persona's voice, because the DMs are where tips, paid messages and customs are sold and where a fan decides the page is worth another month; the messages guide covers the craft. And read the tracking links every week, so the time spent on each social media platform goes to the one that sends subscribers who pay and stay. The basic tools for this are on the platform already: the scheduler, the welcome message and the tracking links. Outside apps that automate the chat are a different matter, as the automation guide explains.

The mistakes that cost a year.

  • MistakeOpening the page before the promotion accounts exist. The first month is silent, and silence is when people stop.
  • MistakeCopying a price. A price chosen because another page has it is a price with no reason, and the first sale teaches the fan it is negotiable.
  • MistakeNo tip menu and no welcome message. The subscription becomes the whole business, and the subscription is the floor.
  • MistakeUsing your real name, a reused handle or a main email. The page is separable from your life only if it was built separate.
  • MistakeHanding a password to an agency "to set things up". Turn on two factor, keep the login, and read the contract explainer before any call.
  • MistakeNo tracking links, so a year later nobody knows which channel ever worked.
How we checked

Platform rules on this page were read from the OnlyFans Terms of Service (the 20 percent fee, the age rule, identity verification, the list of what a creator account requires, automatic renewal, co-authored content and consent) and from the official OnlyFans blog (welcome messages, tracking links) on September 24, 2026. The order of steps is the one Leadiax runs for creators who apply with a new page.

Questions about starting an OnlyFans.

Short answers. Each has a longer page. Open a lock to read.

How much does it cost to start an OnlyFans?
Nothing to open the account. The platform takes 20 percent of what the page earns. The real costs are a phone that shoots well, time, and, if you buy them, shoutouts from other creators.
How long does OnlyFans verification take?
From a day to a few days in most cases, according to the help center, longer when the documents do not match or the photos are unclear. A rejection comes with a reason and can be resubmitted.
Can I start an OnlyFans without showing my face?
Yes. Faceless pages work, especially through Reddit and X where adult content is allowed. They are harder to promote on TikTok and Instagram, which run on personality. The faceless guide covers the trade.
Should my page be free or paid?
Free if promotion will come from Reddit and short video and you will work the inbox daily. Paid if the persona is clear and promotion comes from channels where a price is normal. Both is possible with enough content and two plans.
How do I start an OnlyFans without followers?
Open the promotion accounts first and post for four to six weeks before the page opens. Reddit builds an audience from zero fastest. Never buy followers.
What do I need to start an OnlyFans account?
An email dedicated to the page, a government photo ID and a selfie for verification, tax details and a payout method for your country, and a decision about what the page sells.
Can someone else appear in my content?
Only if they are a verified adult on the platform with a release form on file. There are no exceptions for partners or friends.
Do I need an agency to start?
No. This page is the plan. An agency is worth it when the page converts and you lack the hours to promote it, or when the inbox is the leak; the free audit says which, and says "not yet" when that is the honest answer.
Is there an OnlyFans app to start from?
Not in the app stores for the main platform. Everything, including sign up and verification, is done in a phone or desktop browser. See does OnlyFans have an app.
What should my first posts be?
The content the persona promises, at the quality the page will keep up: a mix of photos and videos, a pinned post with the tip menu, and enough posts that a new subscriber sees a page that has been running. The photo ideas and what to post guides have lists to start from.
Do I need Twitter or other social media to start an OnlyFans?
You need somewhere fans can find you, because nobody finds a page from inside OnlyFans. Reddit and X (Twitter) allow adult content and are where most pages start; TikTok and Instagram work through a safe for work account. The X guide covers the rules there.
How do I choose a niche for a new page?
Start from what you will happily create every week and what you are willing to show, then check that fans already search for it. A clear niche makes the bio, the captions and the promotion strategy easier to write. The niches guide lays out the options.
How do I keep my first subscribers?
Post on a schedule, answer messages, and offer something on the page they cannot get on your free accounts. Subscriptions renew automatically unless the fan turns renewal off, so a loyal fan who feels looked after is income that does not have to be found again.
